New heat treatment furnace
Posted on 24th February 10
Furnace capacity at Darwins has been increased in response to ever growing demand for duplex grades of stainless steel, and the need to process these grades by correct heat treatment and water quenching.
In January 2010 the company commissioned a new furnace capable of reaching the required temperatures to solution treat duplex grades. Now two out of the four heat treatment furnaces at Darwins' foundry are suitable for producing this increasingly popular material.
Technical Manager Fred Pacini said: “This new furnace is part of our ongoing commitment to investing in materials technology. It builds on last year's investment in a new 45,000-litre water-quenching tank, enabling us to produce larger castings in super duplex alloy steels.
"We are 100 per cent committed to meeting changes in demand for different materials, and we work closely with customers to ensure we achieve this."
