Following major investment in a new 45,000 litre water-quenching tank, Darwins can now offer larger castings in super duplex alloy steels.
Just a handful of foundries in the UK have facilities suitable for the production of this increasingly popular corrosion-resistant material, placing Darwins at the forefront of this technology.
Technical Manager Fred Pacini said: “To achieve the quality necessary for super duplex alloy steels, there are certain stringent procedures that must be followed to the letter. These include hot stripping of moulds, immediate charging to the heat treatment furnace, followed by quenching the steel within 60 seconds in a water tank large enough to maintain the cooling temperature of the recirculating water.
“By investing in a much larger water-quenching tank Darwins can now produce larger castings in this modern and very popular material.”
